It’s no secret that I have followed From Indian Lakes for a long time. I wrote about Absent Sounds for my own site when that was up in my teenage years, the 2019 release Dimly Lit for It’s All Dead to try to convert you all, have seen them live three times, and they were my final show before the pandemic hit. If that’s not love I don’t know what is. Even though Joey has released a few albums under his own acoustic / folk project Joe Vann, including a great album (For Everyone) this past year, I am still waiting for the day that From Indian Lakes comes back.
Their switch from chaotic emo to ambient pop was shocking when it happened, but I stayed with it, choosing to trust the process, even though, when I found them as a brash teen girl angry at the world, I identified more with their louder sounds of their inaugural 2009 and 2012 albums. I have since come to appreciate and crave the softer side, and I hope that with this next release, teased on their socials as in progress, gives me something else to meditate on.
